U Youths Assault PDP And Atiku For Allegedly Using Nigerians For Political Purposes

On Saturday, the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to cease using the new Naira policy and the difficulties Nigerians were having using the new notes as political footballs.

In a statement made on Saturday in Lagos, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, the National President of the AYCF, expressed displeasure with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP Presidential Candidate, for his remarks on the new Naira policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Abubakar campaign office urged the CBN not to postpone the deadline for exchanging old naira notes for new ones until Feb. 10.

Any further extension, according to the former vice president, would defeat the policy’s goal and purpose.

Old naira notes were previously only valid until January 31, but this limit caused controversy since Nigerians could not get fresh notes. On Sunday, the CBN announced an extend of the deadline to February 10.

Shettima said that it was improper for the PDP to purportedly disagree with the views of many Nigerians who supported the CBN’s decision to further extend the deadline for old notes, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, the National Assembly, and others.

The former vice president’s call, he said, was inappropriate given the mounting outrage over the sabotage that is putting Nigerians through unimaginable agony as a result of this policy.

“Atiku is the only person who has urged the CBN to not revisit the deadline.

“He opposes notable Nigerians who passionately called for a deadline review, including the leaders and experts of the Senate and House of Representatives, as well as the Sultan of Sokoto.

What benefit would Atiku get from the present problems people are experiencing? Why, and for how long, would he want to connect with the need to continue the struggles that people, particularly those in rural areas, face?
