The Copyright Commission pledges to deter young people from using drugs

The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has said that it is committed to helping African adolescents break free from vices including drug addiction.

Dr. John Asein, the director general of the commission, said this over the weekend in Abuja when he accepted the Youth Partnership for Africa’s Development’s Thomas Sankara Leadership Prize for Integrity and Transparency (YOUPAD).

Without allowing young people a platform to express themselves, according to Dr. Asein, it is impossible to discuss the future of any nation or continent.

He said, “It is our responsibility to provide young people a platform for speech. We constantly try to offer value by assisting young people in finding their voice and maximizing their potential.

He stated it is regrettable that so many young people are turning to drugs as a form of self-expression. It’s crucial to keep in mind that some individuals engage in such unhealthy behaviors as a result of their energy not being directed in the appropriate direction, the speaker stated. “We may be able to provide African kids a motivation to abstain from drugs and to maintain their sanity if we can direct their energy toward their creative potential. This is due to the fact that a person who enjoys poetry or theater and is aware that he has to complete a play or production won’t use the opportunity to go sniff since doing so would lead him to lose focus.

“Therefore, it is possible that you will wean some of them off drugs if you offer them the idea that utilizing their brains to create would bring them some satisfaction.
