Sanwo-olu Emphasizes The Benefits Of The Tax Authorities’ Partnership.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, has said that cooperation amongst tax agencies would not only assist to raise income but also help to curb tax cheating in the nation.

At the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Lagos State Inland Revenue Service (LIRS) to strengthen tax collection and combat tax evasion, he made this statement yesterday in Lagos.

The governor said that working together will enable the government to better respond to the demands of its people in terms of welfare.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the goal of the partnership is to aid the tax system in realizing its goals and so boost revenue generation and taxpayer services.

As a large drain on government income and a barrier to the effective collection and utilisation of money, he said it would also contribute in the elimination of bottlenecks and leaks in the tax system.

According to The Guardian, the agreement was required since the government lacked easy access to data on the numerous facets of Nigerian taxes.

Clem Agba, the Minister of State for State Budget and National Planning, stated at the time that the collaboration’s most crucial component was the requirement to uncover potential taxpayers’ hiding places and ensure that they were accurately profiled in order to fulfill their obligations under the social contract.
