Registrants Are Wailing As They Rush To Acquire PVCs In Abia.

Yesterday in Abia State, voters who had registered for Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) stormed council offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to pick up their PVCs before the deadline on Sunday. It was a story of misery, sorrow, and despair.

In clusters, registrants were spotted vying for attention at the INEC headquarters on Adelabu Street in Umuahia North. Nearly all of the windows had large lines of individuals waiting patiently in line for their turn.

When interviewed by reporters, several of the irate registrants stated their displeasure with INEC for the challenges they faced. Despite spending many hours waiting, they said they were informed that their PVCs were not yet available.

Akoni Iron, one of them, said that his name was in the INEC database, but was informed that his PVC had not yet been printed. He expressed sadness at the fact that, despite his extended wait, he was unsure if he would ever get his PVC in time.

Ferdinand Egbulefu, a different registrant, said that he had attempted to register at Umuagu Primary School and his Ossah Ward without success before being sent to the INEC headquarters on Adelabu Street.

He expressed regret that he may not have a voice in the next elections and said that he had been at the facility from early in the morning till 2:00 p.m. without result.
