Plateau police rescue kidnapping victim, find stolen car

A kidnap victim has been freed by the Plateau State Police Command, and his official Hilux car has also been found. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alfred Alabo, who serves as the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the news in a statement yesterday.

According to him, Alexander Plangnan, “m,” the permanent secretary of the Plateau State Ministry of Work, was abducted in his official Hilux vehicle at the gate of his apartment at the estate by four unidentified gunmen on January 1, 2023, at about 21:30 hours.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Rantya, Ayuba Iliya, and team attended the place of the unpleasant occurrence as soon as the complaint was received, and the inquiry was stepped up. The victim was freed that day at approximately 23:40 via the joint efforts of the Rantya, Jengre, and the Anti-Kidnapping units of the Command, and his car was found in the Mistali hamlet of Bassa council.

Alabo stated that Jerry Moret, “m,” who was injured when the kidnappers’ stolen Hilux struck him, had been transported to the hospital for treatment. He said that attempts are being made to find and capture the fleeing suspects.

Bartholomew Onyeka, the state’s commissioner of police, took advantage of the occasion to appeal to all well-intentioned Plateau State citizens to always provide the police and other relevant security agencies with timely and useful information in order to prevent crimes and criminalities from happening in the first place and enhance security in the state.

“He also asked citizens of the Plateau to see security as everyone’s business and to be committed to helping the police fight crime in the state, adding that they may accomplish this by reporting suspicious activity.

The CP also made advantage of the opportunity to remind the state’s decent citizens that the Command is prepared to make sure they continue to enjoy the peace and quiet they are entitled to.

He said, “The police chief wishes a joyful and prosperous New Year to all the state’s peace-loving citizens.”
