Osinbajo grieves for Diya

The late retired Lt.-Gen. Oladipo Diya was a patriot who shown a strong love and devotion to Nigeria both during and after his service to the military and the country, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The vice president expressed sorrow at the passing of the former chief of general staff in a statement that he personally signed on Monday in Abuja.

“I was saddened to learn of the loss of Diya, the former chief of general staff and second-in-command of the late Gen. Sani Abacha’s Federal Military Government.

“Diya was a statesman who shown a strong love and dedication to our country even after his great service to the country, in addition to being a prominent Nigerian patriot and a famous son of Odogbolu in Ogun.

He said, “Gen. Diya, GCON, LLB, BL, PSC, FSS, mni, was an honest, intelligent officer and a dedicated family guy.

Diya’s passing, according to Osinbajo, was a loss for the people of Ogun and Nigeria.

He asked God to console his loved ones, his friends, colleagues, and the residents of Ogun State.

“May his memory be blessed forever,” he wished.

At the age of 78, Diya passed away on Sunday.
