Obi Triumphed Despite Tinubu’s Illegitimate Election As President By INEC.

The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization Afenifere has claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) unlawfully proclaimed Bola Tinubu the winner of the 2023 presidential election, which was won by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.

The overwhelming Yoruba group made it clear that according to the facts at hand, Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) won the election with the vast majority of the votes cast.

The organization stated in a communiqué that the pronouncement of the results was an insult to the constitution and a violation of the Electoral Act. The special general meeting was conducted at the Isanya-Ogbo country residence of the group’s leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo.

The communiqué, which was signed and sent to The Guardian by the group’s Secretary-General, Chief Sola Ebiseni, claims that the election umpire’s willful disregard for the law promoted electoral brigandage at the voting places.

The frontline Yoruba group reiterated its support for Obi for seeking the court to regain his mandate while maintaining that the next president must come from the South-East for the sake of national integration and peaceful coexistence.

Ebiseni also said the organisation was not responsible for any congratulations extended to the president-elect by Afenifere.

“That Afenifere remembers the ongoing battles of the Nigerian people, which culminated in the revision of the 2010 Electoral Act and the adoption of the 2022 Electoral Act by the National Assembly.

“That the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act of 2022, and the Election Regulations and Guidelines for the Conduct of Elections, 2022, issued by the INEC in the exercise of powers granted to the Commission by the Constitution and the Electoral Act, constitute the extant legal framework mandatorily regulating the conduct of the presidential and general assembly elections held on February 25, 2023.

The Presiding Officer must convey the results, including the total number of accredited voters and the ballot results, in a manner specified by the Commission, according to Section 60(5) of the Election Act of 2022.

“That pursuant to the said power enabling it on that behalf, the Commission issued the INEC Regulations and Guidelines for the Conduct of Elections, 2022, and in Clause 38 thereof, it provides that “upon completion of all the Polling Unit voting and results procedures, the Presiding Officer shall: electronically transmit or transfer the result of the Polling Unit, direct to the collation system as prescribed by the commission; use BVAS to upload a scan of ES8A to the INE
