Maiduguri Fire: Buratai Expresses Sympathy To The Government And Victims

Gen. Tukur Buratai, a former chief of the army staff, expressed sympathy to the families and government of Borno State on behalf of the victims of the Sunday morning fire that destroyed the well-known Maiduguri Monday Market.

In a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja, Buratai—the most recent Nigerian ambassador to the Republic of Benin—expressed his condolences.

He praised Prof. Babagana Zulum, the governor, for his quick reaction to the accident and his contribution of N1 billion to help the victims.

He also urged charitable and well-meaning Nigerians both at home and abroad to give freely to help the victims recover from their losses.

“I was appalled, disappointed, and disturbed when I learnt of the regrettable fire that destroyed items valued in the billions of Naira at the famed Maiduguri International Market.

I send my deepest sympathies and condolences to all the victims, their families, and the government of Borno State for the awful losses.

“May Almighty Allah restore to all the victims their losses and the market be rebuilt within a very short period to allow commercial operations to continue,” he wrote. “I understand your grief at this terrible times.
