Lagos Waives The Penalty For Releasing Seized Autos.
The Lagos State Government announced that it will not charge penalties for cars that had been detained for minor traffic violations.
Tuesday, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, commissioner for transportation, said that Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had extended the palliative measures by ensuring that automobiles seized for infractions of minor traffic laws were released to their owners with the penalties waived.
“We have lowered public transportation fares by 50% when you look at what the governor requested, particularly at the time of financial stress,” Oladeinded remarked.
Hence, we have cut the fee for all of Lagos’ state-funded public transportation, including Lag Ride, by 50% in order to lessen the suffering of our citizens.
Apart from that, we have launched food banks in certain locations, moving away from transportation.
The commissioner said that the government’s attempt to mitigate the effects of the cash shortage brought on by the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) Naira redesign policy includes the waiver of penalties.
Oladeinded expressed hope that the CBN’s attitude will change once Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was named the election’s victor.
“Therefore, although we’re expecting that soon, everything will go back to normal, I believe we’ve cut the cost of public transportation by 50%.
“There were some individuals who broke the law at that time, and we recognize that getting money wasn’t always simple.
“Considering the governor’s generosity, the governor has determined that it is appropriate to require those who committed offenses during that time period and either wanted to pay or couldn’t pay due to a lack of money to come and pick up their automobiles and he has waived the penalties.
Keep in mind that big offenses committed are not included in that. These are just small traffic violations that have been committed in Lagos, therefore the governor’s generosity is an attempt to demonstrate compassion and convey the message that “see, we realize how tough it has been and it is not a cause for us to prohibit you from making ends meet.”
