In a car accident in Kogi, 15 people died and five were wounded.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said on Tuesday that a car accident in Kogi resulted in 15 fatalities and five additional critical injuries.

The J-5 Boxer Bus and a Petroleum Tanker collided at Koton-Karfe along the Lokoja-Abuja route about 7.30 am on Tuesday, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The event was verified by Corps Commander Stephen Dawulung, the Kogi FRSC Sector Commander. He said that the 5 wounded people were taken right away for treatment to Ideal Hospital in Koton-Karfe.

According to Dawulung, the bodies of the deceased victims have been placed in the Lokoja Morgue of the Federal Medical Center (FMC).

The sector commander outlined how the bus driver’s blatant disregard for traffic laws while traveling from Lokoja to Abuja was the direct cause of the accident.

“The bus driver crossed over into the opposing lane while traveling at a high rate of speed, only to collide head-on with an approaching gasoline tanker.

“Thank God the petroleum product-laden truck did not catch fire, since it would have been more disastrous and concerning.

“The tragic fact is that the bus was carrying 17 people, 15 of whom were fatally choked to death during the crash due to being very cramped.

It is disheartening to see how often commuters and drivers disregard traffic laws. Dawulung bemoaned, “Vehicles intended for products should rigorously carry only things and not people like in this regrettable occurrence.

However, the FRSC Commander expressed sympathy to the victims’ families and urged drivers to always abide by traffic laws and regulations to prevent undesired car accidents.
