How the cops stopped a Plateau speaker’s attempted kidnapping

The Plateau Police Command has prevented gunmen from attempting to abduct Mr. Yakubu Sanda, Speaker of the Plateau House of Assembly.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Alfred Alabo, made this announcement in a statement on Sunday in Jos.

Alabo claims that the incident took place at the speaker’s home in Federal Low-cost, Jos South Local Government Area, on Friday night.

The PPRO said that in order to thwart the attempt, it needed the courage of the security guards on duty at the speaker’s home and the prompt involvement of additional police officers from the Rantya Division.

“On Friday night at about 11:20 p.m., when the Speaker was making his way to his home at Federal Low-cost in Jos-South, three unidentified gunmen in an ash-colored CRV Jeep followed him there and made an attempt to abduct him.

However, the courageous police officers on watch duty and the quick action of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Rantya Division, SP Ayuba Iliya and his colleagues, who teamed up with the troops on guard duty and rejected the heinous deed, rendered their objective impossible.

The leadership is making a determined effort, he said, to find the fleeing individuals and apprehend them.

Alabo said that Bartholomew Onyeka, the state’s commissioner of police, commended the people for promptly informing the police about security breaches in their local areas so that swift action could be taken. Onyeka has committed to stop the flow of criminal activity in the state.

He asked the locals to go about their normal business as usual since the police were already making significant efforts to guarantee everyone’s safety.
