Former IGP Solomon Arase is proposed by Buhari to lead the PSC.

Solomon Arase, a former head of the police service commission, has been recommended by President Muhammadu Buhari to the Senate for confirmation as the next chairman of the commission (PSC).

President Ahmad Lawan said that the appointment is in conformity with section 154 (1) of the 1999 Constitution as amended in a letter to the Senate that was read aloud on the Red Chamber floor on Tuesday.

If Arase is approved by the senate, he or she will succeed Musliu Smith, who served as the commission’s previous head, as the actual chairman of the police service commission.

In another event, President Buhari sent the Independent National Electoral Commission two names to ratify as resident electoral commissioners (INEC).

Dr. Mahmuda Isah of Kebbi State, whose appointment is up for renewal, and Dr. Mann Omobayi Alli of Ondo State, who is being appointed for the first time, are the new appointments.

The Senate also received a letter requesting the nomination of five people to the Code of Conduct Bureau.

They are Farouq Umar from Yobe state to represent, Murtala A. Kankia from Katsina to represent (North West), and Zephaniah Ishaku Bulus from Nasarawa to represent (North Central) (North East).

Others are Prof. Juwayriya Badamasiuy from Kogi State to represent (South West) and Abdulsalam Taofiq Olawale from Ondo State (North Central).

Buhari consequently pleaded with the Senate to evaluate and approve all of the selections with the customary haste.
