To guarantee free and fair elections, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE) has recommended the Federal Government to send military and paramilitary troops to every voting location.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja was informed on Friday by Mr. Josiah Ahueyi, Chairman of the NIEEE Abuja Chapter, that the government must ensure voter safety.

“On the subject of security during these elections, I advise the administration to make sure that all military resources are deployed to staff every voting location in order to maintain order, public safety, and security.

“Those hoodlums that may seek to sabotage the process must be kept at bay in order to have legitimate elections free from violence.”

“The institution has also been advocating on our behalf by bringing INEC to our meetings to inform members and provide advice when appropriate.

You may also know that some of our members work for INEC, and some of them have created useful ideas that INEC uses in its operations, Ahueyi remarked.

According to the NIEEE chairman, the federal government might potentially use technologies for a surveillance system, including satellite technology, Close Circuit Television (CCTV), and even drones.

He said that doing so would reinforce and further improve security before, during, and after the elections.

He emphasized that without using contemporary technology, no country could successfully combat insurgency and other violent crimes.
