Female Newborn Twin’s Body Taken by Hospital Due to Parent’s N383,500 Unpaid Bill

After her mother allegedly neglected to pay a N383,500 medical bill for more than a month, a baby is claimed to have been taken by a Unique Health Medical Center in Warri, Delta state.

The Punch claims that Mrs. Akpesiri Ojiko, the mother of the twins, gave birth to the two children on November 17, 2022, at the main hospital in Warri.

Mrs. Ojiko described her struggle and made a plea to the Delta State government and well-meaning people for help in paying the hospital cost so she could see her child.

She said: “I gave birth to a male and a female on November 17 of last year at the general hospital in Warri, but the hospital administration informed us that they did not have bed space for the kids and they could not keep the two newborns in one bed.

They began phoning several clinics to refer the infant, but we declined since we were aware of some of the clinics they were mentioning and we informed them that they were pricey and unable to cover their expenses.

Finally, they advised us to visit the Unique Health Medical Center in Warri; we had no choice but to do so.

The newborn was scheduled for discharge on November 27, 2022, but the hospital confiscated the infant since we were unable to pay the remainder.

“The total before my sister’s contribution of N50,000 is N433,500. We paid N50,000 to have my sister bring the baby, and the remaining N383,500 would be paid to get my kid freed.
