Buhari Orders The Saboteurs To Be Detained And Prosecuted

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari to step up cooperation with anti-corruption organizations in order to thwart efforts by individuals determined to obstruct the smooth execution of the currency re-design strategy.

On Thursday in Abuja, the president addressed Nigerians over the CBN’s currency exchange program and the state of the nation.

He urged the top bank to make sure that any organization or anyone discovered to have obstructed or undermined the implementation will be held fully accountable under the law.

The president declared: “I am not ignorant of the barriers erected on the way of innocent Nigerians by dishonest financial employees charged with carrying out the new monetary policy.

“I am really sorry for these unexpected results and truly feel your suffering.

“To stop this trend, I’ve ordered the CBN to use all available legal tools and resources to make sure that our residents are properly informed about the policy, have simple access to cash withdrawals thanks to the availability of the right quantity of currency, and have the capacity to deposit money.

I’ve also instructed the CBN to work more closely with anti-corruption organizations to make sure that anybody who is discovered to have obstructed or undermined the implementation would be held fully accountable under the law.

The Nigerian president said that while the deadline for the currency exchange was being extended, he listened to helpful counsel from institutions and well-meaning individuals all around the country.

“I urge every citizen to work harder to make their deposits by using the platforms and opportunities being given by the CBN in light of the state of our economy and the legacy we must leave for the next government and future generations of Nigerians.

“Let me reassure Nigerians that our government would keep an eye on the implementation to make sure they aren’t taxed needlessly.
