Bricklayer remanded by court after suspected sodomy

A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court ruled on Wednesday that Abubakar Badamasi, a 23-year-old bricklayer accused of sodomizing a juvenile, be placed in a detention facility.

Badamasi, a resident of the state’s Kabala Doki region, is accused of an unnatural offense in violation of Section 259 of the Kaduna State Penal Code.

Badamasi’s appeal for lack of jurisdiction was rejected by Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, who then ordered that he be detained in custody in a jail or prison awaiting legal counsel.

The case was postponed until February 6 by Judge Emmanuel, who also directed that the case file be sent over to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal counsel.

According to the prosecution, Inspector Chidi Leo, the incident was reported to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kabala Doki, on December 22.

He said that Badamasi had sodomized the six-year-old after luring him into an unfinished structure nearby.

According to the prosecution, Badamasi handed the victim some biscuits, N100, and told him not to tell anybody what had happened.

Leo said that Badamasi was detained when the six-year-old reported the incident to his mother.
