Before Elections, Police Retrain The 79 Squadron Commanders.

All 79 Squadron Commanders of the Nigeria Police Mobile Force are currently undergoing a two-week fully residential refresher training at the Nigeria Police Mobile Force’s Training College in Ila-Orangun, Osun State, under the direction of Inspector-General of Police Usman Alkali Baba, in accordance with his mandate on human capacity development.

On January 23, 2023, the program will come to an end. It started on January 9.

The training aims to increase the Squadron Commanders’ operational effectiveness and to provide a safe environment before, during, and after the general elections in 2023.

The focus of the course includes the use of modern riot control devices for suppressing riots and other disturbances, crowd control techniques, ambush and counterambush, diplomatic protection, combating internal security challenges and insurgency, as well as gun safety and weapons handling, according to NPF spokesman CSP Muyiwa Adejobi.

“The IGP has ordered Police Mobile Force (PMF) officers and men to properly use the opportunity the training will provide them with in order to strengthen their crime control mechanisms and general safety methods, particularly with a view to holding free, fair, and credible general elections.

“In the same vein, the IGP met with officials from the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on Thursday to discuss potential areas of collaboration to strengthen the Force’s oversight and accountability mechanisms, including the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) and the Provost Department.

“Synergy between the foreign agencies, the Police Reform and Transformation Office (PORTO), the office of the President Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Police was considered in order to enhance the Nigerian police system and appropriately manage disciplinary problems.

In order to achieve his goal of “a people-oriented Nigeria Police,” the Inspector-General of Police promised that his government will work with every sector to sanitize the police.
