Armed Attackers Okigwe Pdp Candidate Burned Cars And Homes On Fire

Engr. Ifeanyi Ozoemena, the PDP candidate for the Okigwe council area, had his country house set fire only 72 hours before the State Assembly elections in Imo State.

According to a witness who requested anonymity and told The Guardian that the suspects, who numbered over seven, came to Ozoemena’s property on Tuesday at 2 pm in a Sienna Toyota Vagon.

The suspects reportedly drove away while firing intermittently in the air after allegedly throwing explosive devices at both the residences and parked cars within the property in an effort to reach their intended target.

Ozoemena responded by expressing disbelief at the incident and claiming that it was only by God’s grace that his family, including his elderly parents, managed to escape the assault unharmed.

He referred to the occurrence as very regrettable, brutal, and inhumane while urging the security services to provide proper security and take swift measures to catch the offenders.

I simply thanked God for preserving the lives of my family, especially my elderly parents, he stated. Without His mercy, we would have perished. I don’t understand why certain individuals would have such malice for me. My home and my father’s home were both set on fire by the assailants while I’m speaking to you right now. Likewise, all the cars parked in the complex were set fire. ” I have reported it to the police, who I hope will help me and make sure that those responsible for this regrettable, barbarous, and inhumane crime are apprehended and made to bear the consequences of their acts.

When reached, ASP Henry Okoye, the state police public relations officer, said that he had not yet received a briefing on the event but that he would get back to the caller as soon as possible. Yet up to the time of reporting this article, he had not responded.

Two weeks before, a similar assault on his relatives, including the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Emeka Okoronkwo, resulted in the destruction of hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of property.
