After a strike, Imo’s power supply has been restored, according to EEDC

On Wednesday, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) guaranteed that electricity would be restored to all areas of Imo as soon as the NLC ended its strike.

The conflict between the NLC and the state administration has resulted in a complete blackout in Owerri since Thursday and has prevented the EEDC, which supplies electricity to Imo, from operating.

Also, it resulted in Gov. Hope Uzodinma dismissing Mr. Ford Ozumba, the Imo Commissioner of Labour and Productivity, on Saturday.

Likewise on Saturday, hotel owners in Imo pleaded with the state’s administration and its NLC chapter to resolve their disputes in order to prevent the state’s tourist sector from collapsing.

But, in a statement he released in Enugu on Wednesday, EEDC’s spokesperson, Mr. Emeka Ezeh, guaranteed that the power supply will soon be restored.

“The Imo administration and the NLC came to an agreement on Tuesday to put the industrial action on hold.

“The Imo administration was given two weeks to coordinate and execute all of the labor union’s concerns.

“As a consequence, the labor union has requested the Transmission Company of Nigeria to promptly restore supplies in order to allow the EEDC to distribute electricity to its clients,” Ezeh said.

He also said that all employees of the corporation were asked to immediately resume their regular work schedules in their respective Imo areas.
