Abiodun Takes Charge Of The Funeral Preparations

In order to give Lt.-Gen. Oladipo Diya a dignified sendoff, the state of Ogun State, represented by its governor, Mr. Dapo Abiodun, said on Monday that it will handle the burial.

This was remarked by Abiodun while paying the late Diya’s family a condolence visit at his home in 31 Adekunle Fajuyi St., GRA, Ikeja, Lagos State.

According to the Nigerian news agency NAN, Lt.-Gen. Diya passed away on March 26 at the age of 79.

The governor said that Diya was a distinguished son of the state and had served as governor of Ogun State in 1984, a position in which they were very proud.

“His service to the state will be cherished for a very long time.

“Taking over and giving him a proper goodbye is the least we can do to honor him and help the family, and that is what we are going to do.

To make sure that we give our deceased son a proper funeral, he continued, “a committee will be established up that will include of members of our cabinet and members of the family.”

One of the teachings from Diya’s life and times, according to Abiodun, was to completely put your confidence and faith in God.

“I discovered that even if you are sentenced by a human being, God will defend you if He is with you and you have complete confidence and faith in Him.

“Diya’s life was given a sentence, yet God sustained him, and he continued to live for many more years after that sentence.

Therefore, for me, it is one of the lessons from the life and times of Lt.-Gen. Diya, who we are going to really miss, that I will remember, he added.

The governor described Diya as a gentleman, soldier, and lawyer who reached the pinnacle of his career by taking the position of Chief of Staff at the Supreme Headquarters.

He also rose to the position of General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 82nd Division and Commandant of the Nigerian War College, positions that effectively made him vice president of Nigeria.

“We cannot chronicle the history of Ogun State without commemorating him in particular or where he is from, which is Odogbolu LGA, due to his philanthropic intellect and community commitment.
