A Couple In Enugu Cries Out For Rescue As Their Kid, 13, Is Consumed By Flames.

Mr. and Mrs. Chukwuma Okaria, who reside in Enugu, have pleaded with the government and kindhearted people for assistance as their son Chukwuzitere fights for his life at the National Orthopedic Hospital in Enugu.

Chukwuzitere, an SSI student at Uwani Boys Secondary School in Enugu, left the home with a number of his pals on Boxing Day, but little did he realize that his life would take such a drastic change.

His father, who was heartbroken, revealed to the media that he was out at work when he got the call that something wasn’t right at home.

“My wife was sobbing when she contacted me, saying Chukwuzitere is in danger. I just hung up the phone and sped home. When I arrived at the home, I saw that my kid had been completely burned; he was in agony and unable to speak. He was taken to the Emergency Unit at the Orthopedic Hospital in Enugu after we rushed him there. By God’s mercy, he has left the intensive care unit and is currently in the hospital’s ward, the man added.

When questioned what precipitated the event, Mr. Chukwuma said that eyewitnesses had stated that his son Chukwuzitere had been attacked by a neighbor’s youngster when he was putting on a Boxing Day amusement masquerade on Chief Ekwueme Street in Uwani, Enugu.

“I was informed that the knockout detonated and caught fire as soon as he tossed it on him. My kid began scurrying into the flames in search of assistance before he collapsed. I discovered that witnesses to the incident pursued the man with buckets of water. By the time the fire was out, his body had totally burned through the masquerade attire. He was completely burned.

Mr. Chukwuma thanked God that his kid was still alive but acknowledged that the family’s financial burden from the hospital expenses is too great.

We have been paying N20,000 (Twenty Thousand Naira) every two days for dressing, omitting the money for medications, in addition to the bill that was handed to us when we left the Emergency Unit. We were transferred from the emergency unit to the ward, where we are now located. I perform menial tasks, while my wife has a tea and bread fast-food restaurant on Eze Street in Uwani. It is too much for my wife and I, he cried, adding.
