63 people are kidnapped in Niger by bandits.

From three settlements in the Pandogari region of the Rafi Local Council in Niger State, armed bandits have kidnapped 63 people. According to research by The Guardian, 14 victims from Jarmiya and eight from Pandogari were among the 41 victims abducted in Durmin village.

The three towns are fewer than 10 kilometers from a camp of the Joint Security Task Force in the state, according to a local who asked to remain anonymous.

Further information revealed that the bandits attacked the localities a short time after the combined security task group freed 13 captives from their captors’ lair.

Two police officers were wounded and a suspected terrorist was killed yesterday after a gunfight on the Katsina-Jibia Road in Katsina State. The attackers assaulted a police station along Magama-Hirji at about 4.30 a.m. using high-tech weaponry.

One of the terrorists was killed in the ensuing gun battle, and his weapon and an unknown quantity of cash were found. However, two police officers were hurt in the incident, and they were allegedly sent to Jibia General Hospital for treatment.

Bashir Maita, the municipal council’s chairman, is said to have visited the hospital where the injured cops were being treated, expressed his sympathies, and covered their medical expenses.

The main highway connecting the state to the Niger Republic, the Katsina-Jibia road, is infamous for terrorist assaults on unsuspecting drivers and security checkpoints. The event was verified by SP Gambo Isah, a spokesperson for the police headquarters.

Similar to this, the Plateau State Police Command freed Alexander Plangnan, the permanent secretary of the Plateau State Ministry of Works, from captors.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Alfred Alabo, a resident of State Low-cost, Jos South Local Council, made a distress call on January 1, 2023, around 9.30 p.m., reporting that Alexander Plangnan, the Permanent Secretary of the Plateau State Ministry of Works, had been abducted by four gunmen while driving his official Hilux up to the gate of his home.

He said: “The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Rantya, SP Ayuba Iliya, and his staff attended the location of the terrible occurrence as soon as the information was received. The investigation was stepped up. The victim was freed and his car found near Mistali village of Bassa Local Council about 2340 hours thanks to the combined efforts of Rantya and Jengre police divisions and the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

Bartholomew Onyeka, the commissioner of police, took advantage of the occasion to appeal to all well-intentioned Plateau residents to always provide the police and other security personnel with timely and helpful information in order to prevent crimes from happening and enhance security in the state.
