Ugwuanyi signs the 2023 budget, stating that implementation would begin in January.

On Friday, Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi gave his approval to the N166, 602, 4I6, 770. 00 2023 allocation bill approved by the State House of Assembly.

 

Ugwuanyi added that by officially enacting the approved 2023 budget, the process of allocating monies for the operation of Enugu State’s government in that year has been completed. Following my presentation of the state’s proposed budget for 2023 to the Enugu State House of Assembly on December 15, 2022,” he continued.

 

The governor said, “Through the use of the 2023 budget, dubbed the “Budget of Consolidation and Transition,” my administration aspires to consolidate its successes in numerous state sectors and transition the government of the state to the next administration.”

 

In addition to expressing his happiness that the State House of Assembly accorded the budget proposal prompt deliberation and approval, Governor Ugwuanyi reaffirmed the readiness and preparation of his government to begin the execution of the 2023 budget in earnest on January 1, 2023.

 

In accordance with the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, he said, “This is also the final time I would be assenting to the full year budget of Enugu State as Governor.”

 

He said “I applaud the committed Clerk and other employees of the House whose efforts to the legislative work, while vital, are usually unnoticed.” He also complimented the State House of Assembly’s leadership and members for acting quickly to evaluate and approve the budget.

 

As a result, Governor Ugwuanyi wished a happy New Year to the good people of Enugu and urged them to continue living in peace and in prayer.

 

Earlier, Rt. Hon. Edward Uchenna Ubosi, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, praised the budget as excellent and practical while revealing that important sectors including the labor force, agriculture, education, health care, and water resources received significant funding.

 

“It demonstrates that you (Ugwuanyi) are ready to complete all the tasks you began and those you promised the deserving citizens of Enugu State. Your Excellency, it is a highly good one. It demonstrates how reasonable the budget is, he added.

 

On behalf of his colleagues, the Speaker thanked Governor Ugwuanyi for his unwavering commitment to peace and good governance as well as his outstanding leadership abilities. He also expressed the legislators’ gratitude for the cordial working relationship they have had with the governor, the members of the State Executive Council (EXCO), and other state officials.
