Today, The Senate Will Discuss The Cbn’s Cash Withdrawal Guidelines.

Yesterday, the Senate decided to discuss the new Cash Withdrawal Limit Policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Following a point of order by Sen. Olubunmi Adetunmbi (Ekiti North), who called notice to the absence of Sen. Uba Sani, Chairman of the Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, from the chamber, the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, revealed this at plenary yesterday.

Similar signals from the House of Representatives suggest that the National Assembly may prevent the CBN from moving further with the policy’s implementation.

During a lecture titled “Delivering On Our Contract With Nigerians: Implementing The Legislative Agenda of the 9th House of Representatives – Progress, Challenges, and the Way Forward,” Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila dropped the clue.

The CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, was accused by Gbajabiamila of making choices on the policy without consulting the National Assembly, and he expressed concern that the strategy may aggravate the nation’s economic crisis.

The report of the screening for the two CBN Deputy Governor candidates, Mrs. Aishat Ahmad and Edward Adamu, was scheduled to be presented by the panel’s chairman, according to Adetunmbi, who is also a member of the Senate committee.
