Those in favor rejoice as the court grants senator bail

Numerous thousands of his followers have expressed joy after Sen. Bassey Akpan (Akwa-Ibom North-East) was granted bail by a High Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Following his release on Thursday, Akpan—who is also the Young Progressives Party’s (YPP) candidate for governor of Akwa Ibom State in the 2023 elections—arrived in Uyo.

The YPP faithful and the senator’s throng of supporters rejoiced with the senator’s wife and thanked God for the liberation of their candidate.

Despite his trauma at the hands of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Akpan’s fans continued to support his cause even in his absence because they still had faith in his leadership skills. They allegedly promised to support him in the next election even if he is imprisoned.

The senator was charged with corruption and was sentenced to 42 years in prison without the possibility of a fine. Anwana Amba, a former Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) and Akpan’s running companion, said his principal’s struggle had put his faith to the test.
