Tanko charges Tinubu of creating the conditions for violence.

Yunusa Tanko, the chief spokesperson for the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Council, suggested that Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s speech on seizing political power by the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate could be a recipe for violence in the general elections of the following year.

In a speech to his supporters abroad, Tinubu mentioned grabbing positions of power in a London restaurant.

Tanko said in a press conference with journalists in Abuja: “This is coming from a presidential candidate who is too un-presidential. How can a man use such words when he wants to rule over 200 million Nigerians?

“I don’t believe it’s appropriate to travel to a civilized environment and discuss power grabbing in the U.K. for that matter, and I sincerely doubt that the APC presidential candidate even bothered to sign the peace agreement for the elections in 2023.

“If he has done it, then his remarks about gaining power at all costs were inappropriate because they could have influenced his supporters to believe that violence is the only way to win votes.

“With just three months until the presidential election, elections must be held in a climate free of violence, so it is really offensive when Tinubu says things like this.

It’s upsetting to hear one of us, the most seasoned politician in Nigeria, speaking in this way while being applauded and praised by the crowd.
