Over 270 people are killed by cholera in Cameroon.

Manaouda Malachie, the minister of public health for Cameroon, stated on Thursday that the disease had killed 272 people since October 2021 and spread to eight of the country’s ten regions, including the Center area.

At a news conference held in Yaounde, the capital city, Manaouda said that as of October 20, 12,952 persons were known to be afflicted.

The minister emphasized that although efforts were being made to avoid the illness from spreading, individuals needed to follow basic hygiene guidelines and seek treatment right once if they saw symptoms.

As part of a statewide effort to stop the spread of the illness, health authorities started immunizing kids in schools against cholera on Wednesday in Southwest, the region with the greatest number of fatalities and cases reported.

Officials attributed the epidemic’s spread to inadequate hygienic and sanitation practices.

The most severe type of cholera is characterized by a rapid onset of acute watery diarrhea that may result in severe dehydration and death.
