On his way to an operation in Ogun, a suspected cultist was arrested.

Olamide Olabode, a prominent member of the dangerous Eiye confraternity, was apprehended by Ogun state police officers as he prepared to undertake an assault with other members of his gang.

The suspect was apprehended on October 23 at the Oke-Iganmu area of the Ilaro/Papalanto road, according to the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who also confirmed the arrest. The patrol team from the Ilaro division was conducting a routine patrol of the area when they spotted the suspect and two other people riding a Bajaj motorcycle.

Oyeyemi said that the suspect, who was riding in the rear, leapt off the motorbike fast and went into the bushes while carrying a bag.

“While the other two raced off on the motorbike, he was closely pursued before being captured. Two locally produced short guns, four live rounds, one dagger, and what seemed to be indian hemp were found inside the bag when it was searched by him.

During questioning, the suspect admitted to being a senior member of the Eiye cult group and that they were traveling to the hamlet of Agodo for an operation, according to Oyeyemi.

The suspect has been moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s anti-cultist team for a covert investigation, said CP Lanre Bankole, the state commissioner of police.
