Nigerian Police Ban Fireworks During Christmas

The Zone 5 of the Nigerian Police Force has reiterated that it is forbidden to use fireworks both during and after the holiday season.

This declaration was made on Saturday in Abuja by Lawan Jimeta, the AIG in command of the zone that encompasses the states of Edo and Delta. DSP Tijani Momoh, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, issued the statement.

The explosive devices, in accordance with Jimeta, have the potential to endanger lives and property, disrupt public tranquility, and unnecessarily frighten locals.

The zone thus urges to the general public, parents and guardians alike, to refrain from detonating or igniting these devices in light of the aforementioned.

“Parents are to discourage their kids and wards from buying or using these things.

Retailers of these devices are also urged to cease selling them as anybody or any group of people discovered disobeying the order would be detained and punished as a result, he added.

Additionally, since the Christian faithful and others in the zone celebrate Christmas, the AIG chose the means to send his holiday blessings to them.

Residents in the zone were reassured by him that the zonal command was prepared to ensure the safety and security of people and property during the holiday season.

He said the area has put in place sufficient security measures, both in terms of human and material resources, to guarantee a trouble-free and smooth Yuletide celebration.

Jimeta added urged everyone to enjoy the celebrations in moderation while always being aware of their surroundings for security reasons.

He urged that suspicious people or movements should be reported right away to the local police station.
