Man charged to court for calling a lady prostitute

On November 3, a Kenyan park tout who had insulted a female minibus driver was brought before a court.

At the commercial bus stop on Tom Mboya Street, George Kihiu Karanja, who was accused of calling Catherine Kabura Wangari a prostitute, pled guilty to using obscene language with the goal to cause disorder.

According to the case sheet presented before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi, the defendant is accused of calling Kabura “malaya, mea ndevu” on October 22, 2022.

He allegedly approached the complainant and told her to leave her car there since it belonged to another minubus driver before using the harsh language.

She agreed, but the accused person followed her, unlocked the driver’s door, dragged her outside, and began demeaning her.

George escaped as two traffic police officers arrived at the scene to restore order in the neighborhood.

Following his detention and arraignment in court, the accused entered a guilty plea and said that the economy is difficult and that he was concerned the complaint may interfere with the operation of his minibus.

In his request for pardon, he said that he had done the crime out of rage and vowed never to do it again.

George said that while he had now apologized to the woman, her supervisor had decided against reaching a settlement outside of court.

The magistrate ordered the probation office to provide a pre-sentencing report when the court issues the punishment, and she kept Karanja until November 7.
