Man, 29, is detained for raping a woman with Down syndrome.

A 29-year-old man called Kunle Abati has been apprehended by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly coercing a 27-year-old down syndrome lady into having sex with him (name withheld).

The victim’s mother filed a complaint at the Ilese Ijebu divisional headquarters on December 7, 2022, stating that she sent her daughter out on an errand at about 7:30 am, but when she got back, she saw a bloodstain on her garment. The suspect, Kunle Abati, was then detained.

She said that she brought her daughter to the suspect’s home and indicated that the suspect had had carnal knowledge of her when she questioned her daughter about the blood on her shirt.

Following the complaint, CSP Paul Omiwole, the DPO for Ilese Ijebu, instructed his investigators to track down the culprit, who was then detained.

During questioning, the suspect admitted to the crime and said that he also took advantage of the woman’s health issues to rape her before learning that she was a virgin.

The sufferer, who was gushing blood, was rushed right away to General Hospital Ijebu-Ode for treatment.

In confirming the arrest, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi of the state police command said that CP Lanre Bankole, the state commissioner of police, had directed the suspect’s immediate transfer to the state Criminal Investigation Department’s Anti Human Trafficking and Child Labor unit for further investigation and assiduous prosecution.
