In two years, the NDLEA reports arresting 18,940 suspects.

The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said on Tuesday that it had detained 18,940 people for various drug-related offenses during the previous two years.

Mohammed Buba-Marwa, the agency’s chairman, made this statement in Yola while accepting an award from the Adamawa Honours Society in honor of his exceptional contribution to the country.

According to Buba-Marwa, the organization obtained 3,324 convictions, seized 5.4 kg of various controlled substances and narcotics, and treated 3,326 drug addicts during that time.

Drugs “do not discriminate between tribe, religion, or area,” he said, calling on parents, communities, and religious leaders to step up their attempts to contain the threat.

He said that intended couples should be drug tested before to marriage while also revealing that the organization had obtained drug and lie test kits.

Drug testing, according to him, “will establish the guilt or otherwise of spouses and prevent marriages from disintegrating owing to drug addiction.”

He insisted that the NDLEA is striving to reduce the supply and demand for drugs, emphasizing that doing so will considerably improve the effort to combat the trend.

Marwa said, “I also congratulate the Adamawa House of Assembly for implementing legislation against drug-related crimes,” as she praised President Muhammadu Buhari for helping the organization battle illegal substances.

He expressed gratitude to the organizers for recognizing him as deserving of the prize and said it would inspire him to do more.
