In Abuja, police seize 900 rounds of ammunition.
Approximately 900 rounds of ammunition were being transferred from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Abuja when they were apprehended by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command agents.
Following information, decoy operators in Abuja were able to intercept the ammo, which included cartridges for sophisticated weaponry, as it was being carried on a commercial luxury bus. The ammunition was hidden inside bathroom slippers.
Anthony Udeh, the bus driver, and Emmanuel Onuvu, the conductor, said that they were given the things to deliver to a person in Abuja and did not examine the contents of the bag.
The new FCT Commissioner of Police, Sadiq Abubakar, responded to the situation by saying that the arrest was made to protect the lives and property of FCT citizens, particularly those who live in border communities. He issued a warning to criminal elements not to enter the FCT because they would be thoroughly smoked out.
Since his appointment as the new FCT police chief, the CP reports that 18 people have also been detained for a variety of offences. He claimed that when the suspects were apprehended at the You and You Hotel in Sambisa, Nasarawa State, 122 live 7.62mm rounds, a locally made pistol without ammunition, three ballistic vests, six AK-47 empty magazines, seven G-3 empty magazines, and various charms were discovered in their possession.
A police sergeant warrant card, a vigilante identity card, a civil defense identity card, a Toyota Camry 2000 model (gold color) with registration number GGE 702 CH, a Golf 3 wagon (green color) with registration number KWL 22 GQ, two generators, and a filing machine were among the additional items seized from them.
The suspects will be prosecuted in court when the inquiry was finished, according to the police, who said that the probe was still ongoing.
