If I’m elected president, I’ll sell Nigeria’s refineries, Atiku says

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, has reaffirmed his intention to sell Nigeria’s refineries to investors if elected.

If businesspeople were given control of the nation’s refineries, according to Atiku, they would be managed more effectively. In a Washington, DC, interview with the Voice of America, VOA, Hausa Service, he made the statement.

Atiku said when asked about the refineries: “My opinion on this is not new; I had stated years ago, I would sell them, because if you give [them] to businesses, they will operate these refineries better.”

Additionally, the PDP candidate for president promised to address the problem of oil theft in the southern region of the nation.

If Atiku is elected as the next president of Nigeria, he has promised to utilize the “might of government” to combat oil theft in the South-South.

Because the NNPC and the security services are in charge of watching over oil pipelines installed, he added, “this is a separate situation that we have to explore how we can utilize the authority of the government to stop it.”

Kaduna, Warri, and Port Harcourt, Nigeria’s three oil refineries, have remained idle for years.
