I Will Not Support Atiku’s Campaign for President, Babachir Lawal, an ex-SGF, clarifies
Dr. Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has made it clear that he would never support Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s bid for the presidency.
He said that Atiku’s bid for the presidency would fail because it would equate to the changeover of power from one Muslim Fulani president to another Muslim Fulani president and be the worst kind of Muslim-Muslim ticket.
The former SGF issued a warning, saying that if Atiku had his way, it would signify racial dominance of one ethnic group over another.
Babachir Lawal underlined his dedication to seeing Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party candidate for president in the general elections of 2023, achieve his goals.
The former SGF’s response was brought on by the news that he had left Peter Obi to work for Atiku.
Babachir Lawal denied the reports in a statement made public on Monday in Abuja, adamant that he would not back any Fulani who may jeopardize Nigeria’s unity due to their religion or ethnicity.

“I just came across a popular story claiming that I had left Peter Obi in order to work for Atiku Abubakar.
Nothing could be farther from the truth than this. Since the PDP’s founding, I have never thought about joining since I consider it to be the worst example of a group of oligarchs and reactionaries.
In addition, I have to fight Fulani herders every year who are determined to let their animals raid my fields and destroy my crops. This is in addition to their intention, as they have everywhere in the North, to occupy the ancestral farmlands of my kinsmen. While their privileged kinsmen who control the government remain silent, they carry out all of these actions carelessly.
The worst kind of Muslim-Muslim ticket, in my opinion, is when a Muslim Fulani President hands over power to another Muslim Fulani President. Additionally, it symbolizes the dominance of one ethnic group over others. I’m still a huge fan of Peter Obi. False news is any news that suggests otherwise.
