Herzog visits Bahrain as the first Israeli president to do so.

The first visit by an Israeli head of state to Bahrain since the two nations’ normalized relations in 2020, Israeli President Isaac Herzog landed in Bahrain on Sunday.

According to images shared on his Twitter account, Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif al-Zayani welcomed Herzog, whose function is primarily ceremonial, at the airport.

He announced on Twitter that he intended to meet both the crown prince and prime minister, Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, and King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa.

Herzog stated that he will discuss “ways to deepen our economic cooperation” as well as climate change and security problems while being accompanied by an economic delegation.

Herzog declared that he would next go to Abu Dhabi, the UAE’s capital.

Following discussions pushed by the administration of former US president Donald Trump, the UAE, Bahrain, and Morocco established normal ties with Israel in 2020, marking the first time in many years that Arab nations had done so.

Earlier, the Jewish state signed peace agreements with its neighbors Jordan and Egypt.

Herzog tweeted on Sunday, “I appeal on other states in our region to join this collaboration, strengthening the Middle East.

The growing peace in the Middle East is crucial, particularly in light of the dangers to regional and global stability. There is only one solution to hate, threats, and terror: forming partnerships with allies.

The Israeli embassy in Bahrain was opened in September of last year by outgoing Prime Minister Yair Lapid, who was also the country’s top diplomat at the time.

Israel and Bahrain inked a defense deal in February of this year, and Naftali Bennett was the first Israeli prime minister to travel there.
