For The First 18 Years Of My Life, I Lacked Shoes, Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has shared how he went 18 years without shoes until God changed him.

At the Let’s-Go-A-Fishing Special Christmas Service on Sunday, with the theme “Perfect Gift,” held at the Police College in GRA Ikeja, Lagos, Adeboye made this statement.

Adeboye said during the sermon that conditions were so dire that everyone was jubilant the day his father purchased an umbrella.

“Those of you who are familiar with my past know that when someone are said to come from a “rocky background,” what they really mean is a difficult upbringing.

“A rock amid the rocks, my own background is rugged. Because of how impoverished he was, my father was also known as poor. According to an old proverb, when there is trouble for the wife and husband, there must also be hardship for the kids.

“The struggle filtered down to me. I didn’t have shoes for the first 18 years of my life. My father was in such need.

We were happy when he purchased the umbrella, but today, he remarked, “look at what Jesus can accomplish, He can turn the impoverished to the wealthy; change the unknown to the known.”

Additionally, he emphasized how a drastic transformation in his life had made his hometown of Ifewara, in the Osun state, a place of note on the global map.
