FG to Announce Civil Servants’ Salary Increase – Ngige

Sources indicate that the Federal Government will soon announce an increase in government worker wages to reflect the new economic realities that inflation has brought about for the nation.

This was revealed by Dr. Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, in answer to questions from reporters from State House in Abuja.

The conclusions of a Presidential Committee on Compensation’s assessment of wages, according to the minister, will be made public in early 2023.

The minister recently proposed that the government alter employee pay in order to lessen the effects of the country’s growing cost of living.

Ngige responded to inquiries on the topic by stating: “Yes, I am indicating that the Presidential Committee on Salaries is collaborating with the National Salaries Incomes and Wages Commission.

“The Act establishing them requires the commission to determine salaries, earnings, and emoluments in occupations other than the public service.

“They will also help you if you desire their support and work in the private sector. They have what is known as the compensation or remuneration template.

In other words, if you work, you get paid; if you don’t work, you don’t get paid.

“As a result, they have the assessment matrix. They are collaborating with the Presidential Committee on Salaries, which is looking at worker requests and is co-chaired by me and the finance minister.

Outside of this, I mentioned that there were continuous talks about the assessment.

Ngige said, “As we approach the new year, government will make some declarations in that area,” when asked whether a timeline had been set for the implementation of the new pay rise.
