Ekiti Speaker and the wife of the governor want effective prosecution

Olubunmi Adelugba, the speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, and Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, the governor’s wife, yesterday requested the help of traditional leaders, security organizations, the judicial system, the media, and other stakeholders to lessen gender-based violence (GBV) in the state.

The Speaker and the Governor’s Wife both emphasized the need to put a stop to the scourge of rape and other sexual offenses in Ekiti State at yesterday’s special session on the prevention of GBV held in the Assembly chamber.

Gender-based violence, sexual assault, and domestic abuse were unabated in communities all over the state, according to Adelugba, who expressed worry and concern about the situation.

In order to remove the culture of impunity, promote a culture of justice for victims, and act as a deterrence for current and prospective perpetrators, she urged for more zealous and successful prosecution of sex offenders and other GBV violators.

Adelugba emphasized that GBV is a crime against people, society, and humanity, and that it is a fight that must be fought in order to keep Ekiti State safe for women, girls, and other vulnerable residents.

The governor’s wife denounced GBV in Ekiti State, urging offenders to backtrack, and said that the state government is waging a campaign against it. She promised to address the high rates of GBV in the state in order to create a civil society.
