Buhari And 44 Other Leader In New Deal With China

The eagerly awaited three-day United States-Africa Leaders Summit, which explores cooperation on economic engagement, democracy, and climate change, began yesterday in Washington, DC, with 45 of the 49 invited African heads of government. This comes amid an emerging new race for Africa, particularly from China and Russia.

Only South Africa, Zimbabwe, South Sudan, and The Gambia sent foreign affairs ministers, out of the invited nations.

President Muhammadu Buhari was scheduled to speak at the summit yesterday night, as of the time of publication, on promoting conservation, climate adaption, and the energy transition, with the intention of enlisting agreements on closer connections between Nigeria and the U.S.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken earlier said at the African and Diaspora Young Leaders Forum that the US is dedicated to making sure young people can continue to use their skills and labor for the good of people in both the US and on the continent.

“We have many programs that are achieving this goal, like the Young African Leaders Initiative and the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs program, which are part of our economic development initiatives. Since the program’s launch in 2019, more than 5,400 women across Africa have received the networks and training they need to launch and grow small enterprises.

“Over the coming few days, we will be announcing further investments to facilitate student exchanges between our nations, to expand trade possibilities for African diasporans, and to promote African entrepreneurs and small enterprises. The main objective of each of these initiatives is to strengthen our relationship so that we can more effectively tackle the problems we all confront. And eventually, we can create a future for all of us that is safer, more secure, and more affluent,” he continued.
