AMCOW chosen for the board of the World Water Council

African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW) has been elected to the Board of Governors (BOG) for the World Water Council’s (9th) 2023–2025 year.

The BoG will advocate for the use of water in politics and as a tool for providing services in order to launch and maintain the global sustainable development agenda.

The World Water Council is the creator and co-organizer of the World Water Forum, an international multi-stakeholder platform organization. Its goal is to mobilize everyone to take action on important water concerns. At the highest level of decision-making, WWC challenges traditional thinking and encourages discussion.

On the other side, AMCOW aims to promote the supply, use, and sustainable management of water resources in Africa via political leadership, policy guidance, and lobbying.

AMCOW won the contest to represent the BOG for the years 2023 to 2025 as part of its aim to strengthen involvement on a worldwide scale. AMCOW received 184 votes during voting, more than any other candidate.

According to a release, the role of AMCOW will support WWC’s worldwide initiatives to mobilize collective action on water for all purposes. AMCOW carries with it years of substantial input towards establishing the goals and focal points of international water fora. Access to the Member States, Ministers in charge of water issues, and Heads of State and Government of the African Union would be made easier.

Overall, the World Water Council will profit once again from AMCOW’s expertise in effectively managing the regional procedures for Africa for the World Water Forum’s fifth, sixth, and seventh editions. The 10th Forum’s sub-themes and format, “Spare and Share Water,” will benefit from AMCOW’s contributions. A strong and significant African presence at the 10th World Water Forum in Bali, Indonesia, will also be mobilized as a result of it.

AMCOW played significant roles in the 8th and 9th World Water Forums in Brasilia and Dakar while serving on the Board of Governors of the World Water Council from 2008 to 2016.
