A Nigerian Man Who Sold Drugs In India Faces A 20-year Prison Sentence.
Agbu Chike Anthony, a 42-year-old Nigerian who was detained by Indian police for selling drugs, now faces a 20-year prison sentence.
A little more than a year after being apprehended on comparable charges by the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch police, the suspect was detained on a second accusation of selling narcotics, according to the story published by Indian Express on Sunday, December 25, 2022.
He was detained on Thursday in the Electronics City area of Bengaluru’s south-east division by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police after being reportedly discovered in possession of 250 kilos of MDMA crystals, which are worth Rs 25 lakh in the market.
Anthony was detained by the K G Halli police in Bengaluru’s east division in November 2021 for allegedly peddling narcotics while in possession of 90 kilos of MDMA. The Nigerian national was released on bond while still being tried in the case.
Anthony, who entered India on a business visa four years ago, is still there, according to the CCB police.
According to the authorities, he started selling narcotics in Bengaluru by buying MDMA from friends in Goa.
The CCB police claimed in a formal statement that the narcotics were being supplied to consumers in Bengaluru for between Rs 10,000 and Rs 12,000 per gram. Anthony had originally been refused bail after his first arrest in November 2021 on the basis that he had been caught in possession of a significant amount of MDMA. At the trial stage, bail was granted to him.
Anthony has been charged in the most recent case with violating sections 8(c) and 22(c) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, which impose minimum 10-year sentences on conviction and maximum 20-year sentences on possession of a commercial quantity of psychotropic substances and drug sales, respectively.
