14-day paternity leaves are now offered by the federal government to male civil servants.
|Federal employees will now be eligible for a 14-day paternity leave.
This was declared by Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, Head of the Federation’s Civil Service, in a circular headed “Computation of Leave Based on Working Days and Approval of Paternity Leave in the Public Service” and dated November 25, 2022.
According to Esan, the leave is in accordance with the Public Service Rules, 2021 Edition.
Government-approved paternity leave is now available to serving male officers whose spouses give birth. The leave will last for fourteen working days. The maximum number of children on the leave is four, and it cannot be taken more than once every two years.
When a male officer’s family adopts a baby under four months old, the officer will also get fourteen working days of paternity leave.
Such leave should be accompanied by the Expected Date of Delivery report of the officer’s wife or documentation of the necessary governmental organizations’ permission of the child’s adoption.
The circular went into effect on November 25, 2022.
