Pep Guardiola provides an update on Erling Haaland’s injuries.

Erling Haaland may play against Fulham after missing the match against Sevilla to recuperate from a foot injury, according to Pep Guardiola.

In the Champions League tie with Dortmund, Haaland injured a ligament in his foot and had to be replaced before halftime to prevent further injury. The Norwegian missed City’s trip to Leicester fully due to the discomfort, which made it the first Premier League game of the year in which he did not start.

Prior to Kevin De Bruyne’s flawless free kick in the second half giving Pep Guardiola’s team the three points that would keep them atop the table for at least one night until Arsenal plays Nottingham Forest, City outplayed Leicester but failed to put it on the scoreboard. It is unknown whether Haaland would be available for the game the following weekend.

“He won’t play against Sevilla initially, I’m very confident, since we’ve already qualified. We’ll see how Fulham does. There are still six or seven days until then, so we’ll see.”

In Haaland’s absence, Julian Alvarez struggled to get chances against Leicester, although Guardiola noted in the postgame press conference that the No. 9 had failed to score against Bournemouth when the teams set up similarly.

“What would have occurred if Erling Haaland had been present is unknown. Erling Haaland suffered when Leicester played against Bournemouth with five at the back, four in the buildup, and [Jamie] Vardy dropping “said he.

“It’s challenging. The biggest advice I can provide is to not get upset when you go and attack but aren’t in the proper position.”
