Man City Women no longer wear white shorts because of menstrual issues

In order to make players “feel more comfortable” during their periods, Manchester City Women will no longer use white shorts in their home uniform.

Next negotiations with the players, the club and the maker of the team’s uniforms, Puma, declared City will find a new color scheme beginning with the following season.

However, City have already made that choice and will now play the remainder of the season in their burgundy away shorts and home shirts.

The first time they accomplished it was in the 6-0 Conti Cup triumph against Blackburn on Wednesday night.

“Puma and Manchester City take pride in working closely with our players to assist them and provide the ideal atmosphere for them to feel comfortable and perform at their maximum level,” the statement from Pumas and Manchester City said.

“We have made improvements to the items we provide to our female gamers in response to player feedback and the underlying issue of women wishing to stop wearing white shorts when on their periods.

“We won’t be giving our female athletes white shorts starting in the 2023–24 season. To address the problem raised by women in all sports, we will always provide a substitute for our home, away, and third kits.

After West Brom, Stoke, and Scottish team Livingston, City is the most well-known women’s football team to have changed shorts.

Manager Gareth Taylor said when asked about the matter last week: “We’ve always talked about supporting the players as best we can and about raising the bar for the ladies as much as we can, not just at our club but throughout for women’s football.

“I believe it’s something we really need to look at, just to make sure we’re providing the players with the top-level assistance we need to.”
