Nico Williams, A Standout For Athletic Bilbao, Will Catch Aston Villa’s Attention Once Again.
After Unai Emery’s unsuccessful effort to sign the Athletic Bilbao forward in January, Nico Williams will once again be a target for Aston Villa this summer.
Williams, a member of Spain’s World Cup team, was Emery’s first candidate for the position, but the 20-year-old resisted the idea of leaving Athletic in the middle of the campaign.
Even so, Villa won’t be deterred, and Emery will have their full support as he attempts to rebuild the team to fit his playing style this summer.
Williams plays for Bilbao together with his older brother Inaki, who has six goals and six assists this season. He has around 18 months left on his deal and a release clause around the £50 million figure. He can work either flank, too.
Williams’ contract is about to expire, but Bilbao might yet offer him a new one before the season is through and raise the buy-out clause appropriately.
