Breaking the NBA’s all-time scoring record is LeBron James

LeBron James has surpassed Kareem Abdul-39-year-old Jabbar’s record to become the NBA’s all-time top scorer.

James, a 38-year-old standout for the Los Angeles Lakers, scored 38 points in a 133-130 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder to break Abdul-previous Jabbar’s record of 38,387.

Eight months before James was born, in April 1984, Abdul-Jabbar first shattered the scoring mark.

It means so lot to me to be able to be here with a legend and great like Kareem, added James.

With a fadeaway jumper at the end of the third quarter, James, who needed 36 points to break the record, accomplished it. He completed the game with a total of 38,390 points for his career.

While Abdul-Jabbar, who was there for the game at the Lakers’ home court and is 75 years old, stood and cheered, James, who was visibly emotional, raised both arms in excitement.

Play was briefly stopped for a ceremony to celebrate the victory, during which James spoke on court using a microphone.

“I want to thank everyone who has ever participated in this run with me over the last 20+ years because without all of you, I wouldn’t be who I am today. You all contributed. I’ve come this far because of your dedication and sacrifices,” he remarked.

And I want to express my gratitude to the NBA, Adam Silver, and the late great David Stern for giving me the opportunity to take part in something I’ve always wanted to do. I never in a million years imagined that it would be even greater than it is right now.

In front of a roaring throng that included tennis great John McEnroe, musicians Jay-Z, LL Cool J, and Bad Bunny, boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., actor Denzel Washington, and music icon Jay-Z, Abdul-Jabbar ceremoniously turned the ball over to James to acknowledge his new record.
