Arsene Wenger wearing Arsenal gear was odd to see.

Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, described it as “strange” that Arsene Wenger was returning to the Emirates.

On Boxing Day, Wenger sat in the stands as the Arsenal defeated West Ham 3-1.

The 73-year-old returned to the club for the first time since he left after 22 years at the conclusion of the 2017–2018 season.

Speaking at the OXford stadium, Arteta also said that Wenger visited the locker room after the game.

Arteta told ITV, “You could tell that he was emotional, that he truly appreciated [it].”

“And I believe he felt the affection and admiration of everyone at the football club for what he had accomplished. And although it seemed strange to see him in the dressing room, everyone was enjoying a gorgeous day.
