Santi Solari, a former manager, rejoins Real Madrid

According to Relevo, former Real Madrid manager Santiago Solari has rejoined the organization.

Solari has already begun in his new role as Director of Real Madrid City, despite their being no formal announcement. His remit will include the expansion and improvement of all activities at their Valdebebas training facility. This is a new position formed for Solari.

The Santiago Bernabeu is still undergoing renovations, but as Real Madrid continues to grow, focus will shift to Valdebebas once the stadium is ready.

His responsibilities will include aiding in the creation of new facilities for the academy, the men’s and women’s first teams, and the ladies. A C team, playing at a lower level than Real Madrid Castilla, will be added to Real Madrid as of the next season.

During the men’s team’s underwhelming 2018 campaign, Solari led the squad for almost five months until being replaced by Zinedine Zidane. He took over Club America in Mexico late in 2020 and remained in command there until March of this year, ending his tenure without winning any trophies.

It’s interesting how the Relevo story went out of its way to say that Solari would never return to the Real Madrid bench, even if someone had to fill in as a caretaker.
