Sadio Mane won’t compete at the World Cup in Qatar.

Sadio Mane, a striker for Senegal, will miss the World Cup after undergoing surgery for a knee injury he acquired while playing for Bayern Munich.

Senegal’s football association said on Tuesday that Mane, 30, will miss their “first games” in the competition.

However, a further MRI scan performed on Thursday revealed the necessity for surgical intervention.

On November 8, Mane was taken off during Bayern’s victory against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga.

The athlete “underwent successful surgery” on Thursday to connect a tendon to the top of his right fibula, according to Bayern.

The club stated, “The forward will start his recovery in Munich in the coming days.”
